Comrades Marathon Charities

“Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

It’s all about Comrades charitable giving as South Africa and the world counts down to the 93rd Comrades Marathon on Sunday, 10 June 2018. With a little more than 16 weeks to race day, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is pleased to announce that Comrades runners have already raised more than R1-million for its official charities.

To date, 490 runners have signed up for the CMA’s Race4Charity challenge, with 49 athletes raising over R5000 and qualifying to start in the ‘C’ batch.

The Top Charity Fundraiser will be recognised at the Old Mutual Spirit of Comrades Awards later this year.

CMA Chairperson Cheryl Winn says, “Today we received the wonderful news that CMA’s 2018 Amabeadibeadi Official Charity fundraising efforts have broken all previous records to surpass the R1-million mark in February!”

Winn adds, “What a milestone achievement and positive endorsement of CMA’s commitment to generate funds for the good work of our incredibly worthy official charities. Our sincere gratitude goes out to those runners who have committed themselves to running for a cause greater than themselves, and to the generous donors who are supporting them.”

Note: A total of R3.8-million was raised for the official Comrades Charities last year.
